Lutheran South offers two merit based awards to incoming 8th grade students. The awards are described below:
The Explore Scholarship
The Explore Scholarship is awarded automatically to the 8th grade students with the top scores on the Explore Test* regardless of their application status. Potential winners must take the Explore Test during the fall of the 8th grade year to be eligible. The Explore Scholarship recipients receive $1000 toward their tuition during their freshman year after they apply and are accepted to Lutheran South. The award is renewable for three additional years at LHSS. Winners are generally notified in January of the 8th grade year.

The Excellence Award
The Excellence Award is awarded to 8th grade students who demonstrate excellence in four areas: academics; activities and clubs; leadership; and service. Candidates must score a minimum 18 composite on the Explore Test* and must have applied to Lutheran South by March 15 of their 8th grade year. Candidates must also complete a separate Excellence Award application and submit two letters of reference by March 30 of the 8th grade year. Beginning with the Class of 2014, the Excellence Award recipients receive $1000 toward their tuition during their freshman year. The award is renewable for three additional years at LHSS. Award candidates will receive an application in the mail in February. Award recipients are notified by the end of April.

*The EXPLORE Test is a standardized test offered free of charge by Lutheran South to all prospective 8th grade students. The test is administered in each area Lutheran elementary school during October. Other interested 8th graders or those who miss the test date at school may attend a Saturday test date in November (required to be eligible for the Explore scholarship) or in February. Eighth graders who do not attend a Lutheran elementary school but who do take the Explore test at their school may submit a copy of their results to Lutheran South. Results need to be received by January 15 of the 8th grade year to be eligible for the Explore scholarships.

Saturday, November 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Lutheran South
Saturday, February 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Lutheran South
