Congratulations to the following students who participated with distinction at the MSHSAA District Music Festival on March 3. Those students who received a “I” (Superior) rating are now eligible to compete at the state level on April 28. Lutheran South had 33 entries in the contest with eleven receiving “I” ratings. Mock Trial Competes at State
Congratulations to the Lutheran South Mock Trial team! They were one of eight teams in their regional competition to qualify for State competition in Kansas City on March 30 to April 1. While the team did not move on to quarter finals, the students performed well. The team lost both of their cases by only a couple points (e.g. 91-90). Of the 8 teams that moved on, the LHSS team competed and held their own against four in the regular season.
Team members competing at State were: Ashley Myers, Kaitlin Henning), Kali Loesche, Josh Ema, Pastor Joe Cox, Shanon Barton, Ian Crane, Rebekah Rowland, Will Willis, Michael Jokerst, Brynn Burns, Philip DeVore, Ethan McGue Nick Dickman, and Ethan Crombie .
LHSS Talent Show Winners
Congratulations to the winners of the LHSS Talent Show, seniors Dana Kaempfe, Liz O'Leary, Amanda Behnke and Lauren Dalton, who sang "Somewhere Only We Know" before a supportive crowd at the event on Sunday, January 22. The girls were accompanied by senior Harrison Kwon. The Talent Show, sponsored by National Honor Society, raised just over $1000 for Gateway 180, a homeless shelter for women and children. It was a great night for all the performers!
LHSS Academic Team Competes
The LHSS Academic Team competed on Saturday, January 7th in a 30-team DeSmet Invitational Tournament and placed fourth. Kyle Moellenhoff received a 7th place individual medal for points scored. Other team members participating were Ian Crane, Jacob Loesche, Grace Bishop, and Brendan Murphy. Congratulations!
All State Music Results
Lutheran South was honored to have nine entries compete in instrumental music at the State level on Saturday, December 3. Over 1000 students from across the entire state of Missouri competed in Columbia, Missouri, and less than 10% of those that audition are actually selected for state recognition. We are proud to announce the following results:
Tyler Sanft (French Horn), Craig Butler (bassoon), Nathan McCord (jazz drummer), and Kyle Hopfer (trombone) were selected to play “call-back” auditions. Tyler, Craig, and Nathan were all named to the State of Missouri “Honorable Mention” Band. Congratulations!!!
Music Students Excel
Congratulations to the Lancer music students on their outstanding performances!
Nine South choir members participated in the Metro 8 District Choir auditions in October, 2011. Senior Ben Vanderhyde and junior Emily Robinson were selected to District Choir; Ben was also selected for the All State Choir.
Lutheran South qualified 10 out of 18 entries in the District Band competition this year. This is the highest number of students from any parochial or private school in our district! These students are now eligible to advance to State competition and audition for the Missouri All-State Band:
