Students Named to District Honor Band

Congratulations to the following LHSS students named to the District Honor Band. These students are now eligible to advance to State competition and audition for the Missouri All-State Band. Lutheran South qualified 10 out of 20 students this year. Once again this year, LHSS had the highest number of District Band students from the private/parochial high schools in our district. Congratulations to Erin Grev, flute, Shelby Nail, flute, Casey Tkacz, clarinet, David Steffens, 1st chair bass clarinet, Craig Butler, 1st chair bassoon, Sarah Kirkman, 1st chair Alto Sax, Alex Munton, alternate trumpet, Ethan Trimble, 1st chair French Horn, Tyler Sanft, French Horn, and Jessie Reed, French Horn.

Advent Band Concert

The annual Advent Band Concert is Friday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concordia Center at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood. The full-length concert of traditional Christmas music and other band literature will feature our Wind Symphony, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. There will be a free will donation. In addition, the Wind Symphony will also lead the worship at Concordia Lutheran Church on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Please join us!

Christmas Choir Concert

The LHSS Choirs will present their Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kuhlmann Center. The community is invited; carols will be included for audience participation. The concert is free. Invite your friends and join us!

LHSA Seeks to Fill President Position

The Lutheran High School Association of St. Louis is seeking a President to serve as the chief executive officer of the Association. The Association supports two Lutheran high school in the St. Louis community, Lutheran North and Lutheran South. Congratulations National Merit Scholars

Congratulations to four LHSS seniors who were named National Merit Scholars based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT assessment they took as juniors. Seniors Marielle Counts, Eric McDonnell, and Christiana Zipay were named Semifinalists, scoring in the top 1% of students nationwide. Senior Ted Kazanecki was named a Commended Student, scoring in the top 3 percent.

LHSS Alums in the Armed Services

What’s Happening 

Applications for 2009-2010 

Lutheran South is finalizing an online application process that will go live on December 1 for applications for 2009-2010. Watch here for the link. If you prefer to have a paper application mailed to you, please contact Mrs. Jayne Lauer as shown below. 

Class of 2014 

The ACT/Explore test is being given in late October and early November to all 8th grade students in the Lutheran elementary schools. In addition, Lutheran South will offer the test free of charge to other interested 8th graders on Saturday, November 7, 2009, from 9 a.m. - 12 noon at LHSS. The test is not mandatory for admission but is used as a criterion for freshmen merit scholarships and is helpful for course placement. For questions about the Explore test, contact Mr. Rich Arnold, Director of Guidance, 314-631-2842, ext. 413. 

Lancers Live Open Houses 

Anyone interested in learning more about Lutheran South is invited to attend one of our school day open houses called "Lancers Live." Parents may attend alone or bring their child. At Lancers Live, learn how your child can grow in faith, learn for excellence, lead with integrity, and serve the Lord as a student at South; tour LHSS; conclude by attending the 15-minute chapel worship. Lancers Live dates are Fridays from 8:15 - 9:50 a.m. on October 16, November 6, and December 4, 2009. Watch for more dates in 2010. Reservations are helpful but not required to Mrs. Jayne Lauer. Transfer Students 

Openings are available in all classes at Lutheran South. Interested students may request an application by contacting the LHSS Admissions Office at 314-631-2842, ext. 426. Online applications will be available on December 1. 

Shadow Days 

If you are an eighth grade student or transfer student interested in attending Lutheran High School South, you are invited to schedule a Shadow Day to get a glimpse of what high school can be like for you as a Lancer. Please ask your parents to contact the LHSS Admissions & Community Relations Office at 631-2842, ext. 426. 

I-20 Visa Students 

Lutheran South has been approved to issue I-20 Visas to international students who meet the LHSS admission requirements and wish to enroll. For more information, contact Mrs. Jayne Lauer as listed below.
